'The Gruffalo'

The BBC animation of the book 'The Gruffalo' by Julia Donaldson, illustrated by Axel Scheffler is really beautiful. Sadly the actual animation has been removed from Youtube but here you can see the making off which is really interesting. They did such a good job of bringing the 2D characters to life in 3D. I love that they created real mini-sets for the environments rather than having it all in 3D so that the handmade, drawn, textures quality wouldn't be lost.

The fox character in this is not really right for our animation as he is a predator, his features are menacing and 'sly' in keeping with his personality.
Also I'm not a huge fan of his tube-like legs, however he definitely has some interesting features, for instance I like that his feet are black like real foxes, a lot of fox characters have white feet for some reason, its horrible!

Also he has this brilliant little behaviour when he gets a fright, he is standing and then plonks his bum down with his back legs sticking out to the front, it's great!
