This may not be the same as looking at a real life counterpart and thinking that the 3D version must realistically but it is the same concept, the audience knows these characters and have a knowledge, even subconsciously, of how they behave.

“While we didn’t need to police the design of the characters from scratch, we did need to make sure we were animating on model. Previously, there were limitations on what you could do, and you were happy to get what you could from the model. The way Buzz and Woody are rigged now, you can do almost anything with them. So you really have to pay close attention to what is and isn’t on model for those characters. Rob Russ- Animator- Pg 64
