'The Art of Toy Story 3'

“When you’re designing something that already exists, like the Fisher-Price telephone, it’s finding ways to make it work in 3D animation that makes it somewhat challenging. The mouth on the phone is a sticker, and we weren’t sure how it would look if it were a flat graphic of an actual mouth. How would that animate if it’s on a sticker, versus a 3D mouth that opens and closes, like Woody’s or Buzz’s mouth? So finding those kinds of things about existing toys and making them work in 3D is the challenge.”  Daniel Arriaga- Character Designer Pg 26

“Lee and John wanted to stay true to the real toys we’re using. For the Fisher-Price phone, they ended up not moving the mouth at all, but having him speak through the handset. That’s how they solved that sticker problem.” Belinda Van Valkenburg- Shading Director pg 26
