“At that time, supervising animator Glenn McQueen sounded a note that would ring again during the making of Toy Story 3: ‘In the first sequence of the film, we tried to get the audience to feel, ‘Oh, this is the Woody I remember from Toy Story, this is the Buzz I remember.’ We tried to make the performances capture the essence of Buzz and Woody. Once we reminded the audience who the characters were, we had freer rein to develop them. Putting Woody with the Prospector, Jessie, and Bullseye, who look and act like him, gave us a great opportunity to push Woody in a different direction than we had in Toy Story.’”
